A free guide from Bhavna Radia

Your free divorce checklist: what's in your marital pot?

Write down everything you own and everything you owe in one place, so you can see what you're splitting before you agree to anything.

If you've been told that everything has to be split fifty fifty, or that you're not entitled to anything because you didn't earn the money, this checklist is where I'd start.

The law in England and Wales does not say you have to split your finances fifty fifty. You can't tell what's fair until you can see what there is.

Inside the checklist

  • A page for each part of your marital pot: property, money, investments, pensions and businesses
  • Tick boxes for whose name each thing is in, and a space for a rough value
  • A page for what you owe, plus inheritance, gifts and anything owned before the marriage
  • Questions to help you think about what you and your children need
